5 RECOMMENDATIONS AS A RESULT OF CISS 20

BANDUNG- The Faculty of Ushuluddin, Sunan Gunung Djati State Islamic University organized an international conference called the Conference on Islamic and Socio-Cultural Studies (CISS) on Islam and the Making of Religious Harmony: The Transformation of Contemporary Islamic Thoughts in The Era of New Media. This conference formulate five recommendations in the issues of Islam and religious studies, as follow.

First , Islamic and Religious studies should enggage in political power to embrace people justly. All members of society are required to respect sacred religious symbols. Law enforcement against any blasphemy is expected from the government. 

Second , Islamic and religious studies should employ critical thinking in understanding religious teachings. This critical thinking should be available in their minds when reading and receiving religious teachings from any source especially media.  

Third , Islamic and religious studies should use the main source of their religious scriptures to develop the signs  of moderation. In the case of Islam, certain terms should be explore like musawah, 'adalah, ta'awun, morals, and tasamuh from the Qur'an and hadith. 

Fourth , Islamic and religious studies should encourage the open-mindedness to its adherents adherents to accept new findings, new perspectives and even from others. 

Fifth , mindfulness should be available in the minds of any religious adherents which derives from their daily religious life. So they can feel peace inside and then can express these sensations and feelings outside.

Academics from various countries contributed at CISS 2020. Prof. Muhamad Ali, Ph.D., University of California, USA., "Contemporary Trends in Religious Studies." Dr. Adis Duderija, Griffith University, Queensland, Australia, "The Concept of Patriarchal Honor as the root cause of Patriarchal Religion in Muslim contexts and how to overcome it." Prof. Dr. Khadijah bint Mohd. Khambali, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Malaysia, "Fundamental Elements in Sustaining Religious Harmony in Islamic Perspective." Dr. Ismail Ahmed, Passion International University (PIUSAD), Morocco, "Hadith and Media: Moderate Understanding to Counter Radicalism in Contemporary Era."Prof. Etin Anwar Ph.D., Hobart and William Smith College, USA. , "Islam and mindfulness: Toward the Making of Harmonious self."

Other contributors are academics from UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Dr. Yeni Huriani, M.Hum., "Women as Agents of Religious Tolerance." Prof. Dr. Rosihon Anwar, M.Ag., "Islamic Moderation in Sundanese Qur'anic Interpretation." Dr. Munir, MA., "Managing Harmony in a multi-Religious Society: Indonesian Experience." Dr. Dadah, M.Ag., "Moderate Understanding in the Scientific of Contemporary Hadith Studies." Prof. Dr. H. Muchtar Solihin, M.Ag., "Sufism within Global Spirituality."

206 papers were presented by academics from various countries, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, the Netherlands, and Germany. The participants who attended  CISS 2020 is  2000 participants. "The best paper and presenter also announced in this conference," said Dr. Dadang Darmawan, M.Ag., Chairman of the Committee, accompanied by Dr. Irma Riyani, Ph.D., Secretary of the Committee and the entire CISS 2020 Committee.

"This recommendation is conveyed as a form of public responsibility from a scientific activity. Recommendations are submitted to the researchers, academic institutions, governments, world institutions, and global audiences. This is a resolution for world harmony in the new media era. We officially express our deepest gratitude to stakeholders who have provided a lot of assistance for this event, "said Dr. Wahyudin Darmalaksana, M.Ag., Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin (FU), accompanied by Deputy Deans.

CISS is held virtually through Zoom meeting facilities for 5 (five) days, Monday-Friday, 23-27 November 2020. CISS 2020 is the second international conference of FU UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.
